Cosmetic Eyebrow Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential following cosmetic eyebrow tattooing, including ombré powder brows. Following these instructions will help support healthy skin recovery, minimise complications and promote optimal pigment retention.
Day 1–10 | Caring for Your New Brows
During the initial healing period, your skin requires gentle care. Please follow these instructions until any peeling or flaking has completely resolved.
Keep your brows clean. During your daily shower, gently rinse your eyebrows with clean, running water. Avoid prolonged water exposure and pat dry immediately using a clean, disposable paper towel.
Apply your recommended aftercare. TR Pro+ is my preferred aftercare hydrogel. Apply a very thin layer to clean, dry brows following your shower, as individually directed.
Use minimal product. Only a small amount is required. The product should form a light, almost invisible layer without any visible build-up.
Avoid unnecessary contact. Do not touch, rub, scratch or pick at your tattoo. Always wash your hands before providing aftercare.
Maintain good hygiene. Change your pillowcase after your appointment and avoid direct contact between your healing brows and pets.
Avoid additional skincare products. Do not apply makeup, exfoliants, retinoids, active skincare or other topical products directly to the healing tattoo unless instructed.
Avoid excessive moisture and heat. Swimming, saunas, steam rooms and activities that cause excessive sweating should be avoided until the skin has healed.
Protect your healing brows. Avoid direct sun exposure and do not pick or intentionally remove any flaking skin.
Day 1–3 | Initial Healing
Immediately following your cosmetic eyebrow tattoo appointment, your brows will typically appear darker, bolder and more defined than the intended healed result.
Mild redness, tenderness or swelling may occur but usually settles within the first 24–48 hours.
Most clients can return to their usual daily activities immediately following treatment, although some temporary visible changes should be expected.
Day 4–10 | Peeling and Flaking
As the skin begins to repair, you may notice light peeling or flaking. This is a normal part of the eyebrow tattoo healing process and generally lasts a few days.
During this phase, it is important to allow the skin to shed naturally. Picking, scratching or prematurely removing flakes can disrupt healing and affect pigment retention.
Your brows may appear uneven or patchy as the skin heals. This is expected and does not necessarily reflect the final result.
Week 2–3 | Why Do My Eyebrow Tattoos Look Like They're Disappearing?
Following the peeling phase, your cosmetic tattoo may appear significantly lighter or, in some areas, almost invisible.
This temporary change is commonly referred to as the ghosting phase.
As the skin continues to recover, the appearance of the pigment may gradually become more visible. Colour can appear uneven during this stage, so it is important not to assess your final result prematurely.
Be patient with the healing process. Your brows are still settling.
Week 4–6 | Colour Development and Final Healing
Over the following weeks, the appearance of your eyebrow tattoo will continue to settle as the skin recovers.
By approximately six weeks, the healed colour and pigment retention can usually be assessed more reliably.
It is normal for your healed cosmetic tattoo to appear softer and lighter than it did immediately following treatment.
Individual healing times and pigment retention vary depending on skin type, lifestyle, technique and adherence to aftercare instructions.
Week 6–8 | Your Perfecting Appointment
Cosmetic eyebrow tattooing is generally planned as a two-stage procedure.
Your follow-up appointment allows us to assess pigment retention, refine the shape and address any areas where additional colour is required.
This appointment is an important part of achieving a balanced, consistent result. However, additional treatment is always determined by your individual healing and skin condition.
When to Seek Advice
Mild redness, tenderness and flaking may be expected during normal healing. However, increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, significant swelling, discharge or fever may indicate a complication.
If you experience any concerning symptoms, seek prompt medical assessment. Do not wait until your scheduled follow-up appointment.
Remember: Every person's skin heals differently. Following your personalised aftercare instructions and allowing adequate time for recovery will help you achieve the best possible result from your cosmetic eyebrow tattoo treatment.
